Night of Blackness

Traditionally the last weekend of Black History month the three Black diaspora student groups get together to celebrate. Afrika!, B.L.AC and CSA were all there to celebrate, including some faculty and staff that had supported BHM since fall semester to put everything together. Needless to say, it is a well-deserved moment to celebrate and eat bomb food. Last year I missed it because I was at conference in Cambridge, MA, and I'm so glad I was around this year.

The food was great-- we had fried chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese, beans and rice, a lamb stew type thing, african yellow rice, jerk chicken.... and I tried it all! Then for desert there was peach cobbler. Emily and I had been working out a lot and eating healthy for the entire month of February so I didn't feel so bad about that meal.

In a way the event is prom-like because in the beginning nearly 2 hours is spent waiting for people to arrive and then waiting for them to take pictures. Allegedly this was part of the party favor, getting the pictures that we had taken of us.... but I haven't heard anything about that. The President of Macalester showed up right on time at 5:00 PM, apparently he didn't get the memo that this even was NOT going to start on time. Oh well.
